Troubleshooting: n-Track Setup

  • You DID read the nTrack Manual, right? If you're planning on getting good at this DAW thing, you need to take time to learn. The manual addresses many of the topics newbies seem to have the most difficulty with. It also provides some very good info regarding standard practices in getting a decent track recorded. Read it! Twice even!
  • Everything from Track 1 being re-recorded along with Track 2? Yup, we hear that one all the time. What's happening is that you haven't configured N correctly. You need to tell N exactly what source to record. Many entry-level sound cards use the Windows Mixer (Volume Control) to do their routing for them. If you're re-recording Track 1 along with Track 2, you probably haven't change the default settings in the Windows Mixer. Open it and select LineIn as your source and then re-read the Quick Start portion of the n-Track manual. There's also a Tutorial.
  • Not recording what you think you should be? Can't get 24-bit recording to work? You need to correctly configure N's Recording and Playback LEDs to correctly recognize your sound card. Again, the Getting Started section of the manual is a must read. But we've also provided a Tutorial.
  • Using 24-bit? Different sound cards use different settings, and only your manufacturer can tell you exactly which to use (24-bit, 24-bit unpacked, and 24-bit unpacked left-justified). But, we're seeing a trend... try 24-bit unpacked left-justified. Also make sure you've registered the 24-bit version of N. The 16-bit version of N will work fine with a 24-bit card, but only at 16-bit.
